Hotlinking or Stealing band width

Theft Bandwidth is when you copy an image or link directly to your website.
Every time you download from this link, you generate traffic that knowing one's own Web controls
where the discharge occurs.

This traffic is always limited by the server that hosts these websites and, as
is exceeded, it adds a cost to maintaining the Web.
If you copy an image, we are stealing your storage space.

This is illegal and we will try not to go habits that contribute to these
crimes also could cause the closure of a WebSite.

If we put an image, save it on your computer and load it from there.

A simple comparison Theft bandwidth:

"Imagine a stranger that plugs into your outlets, using your electricity without your permission.
The other person steals your energy, and takes you who pay.
Very nice is not it? ... ;) "

Here is an article FrankPererio.com collected about stealing bandwidth and why it is illegal.

What is Hotlinking or Stealing Bandwidth?

Theft or Hotlinking band width is a direct link to the files in a web that is not ours (images, video, etc..). An example of this can be to use the label "IMG" to display a JPEG image that is on another Web site to appear on our website, blog, forum, etc.

The bandwidth is the amount of information transferred from a website to a user's PC. When you see a Web page, you are using the data transfer that site to display files, for example, images. Because a number of suppliers charge transferred data, the bandwidth becomes a problem. If a website go over your monthly limit is charged for the extra data or were simply suspended the service.

How do I do Hotlinking?

This is an example of how an image samples into your web page:

"IMG src =" image.jpg "height =" 350? Width = "200"

This tag tells the Web site to locate the file picture.jpg from the same server. But if you have to steal an image from an external server, this would be the example of the label would have to use:

"IMG src =" http://www.fuerademisitio.com/imagen.jpg "height =" 350? Width = "200"

Every time a page loads, the external server using your bandwidth to display the image.
To avoid this problem, links to files from servers that do not belong.
To share images and files on your own website, upload them to your server or one of the many free providers out there, such as Photobucket, TinyPic, ImageShack, etc ...

Why should I stop this practice Hotlinking?

Show an image or file is not yours is a violation of copyright or copyright,
could take to trial. The copyright owner can use the law, depending on where
This offense is committed, to remove your Internet website and / or pay fines as appropriate.

Another simple explanation of what is the band width theft?

by Frizhard / LaSalchichaExpress for Bix's loft.

The domains and names used are fictitious.

This explanation may be used freely provided that continuation of such paragraph.

Theft Bandwidth is a problem that many people make,
most often through ignorance and without malice,
but you may end up 'strangling' a website.

Let's look in more detail (is long but very explanatory):

An artist named Pepito Garcia decides that his paintings could be sold over the Internet,
then decide to hire a web domain and storage space, say:
and hires 200 Mb of storage to make room for all the images in his paintings.
When you hire space on your server you are given a share of monthly transfer,
say for example 2 GB (ie 2000 Mb) of data per month.

Once you have the space, is dedicated to making pictures of the paintings.
As you want the pictures look good, saves images in PNG,
which has no losses, and a resolution of 2048 × 1536 pixels, for that is sensitive
While the details of the table, so each picture occupies approximately 1 MB of space.

This artist puts their pictures on the page, along with details of the materials you have used,
techniques that has been used, the address and phone number in case you want to buy the picture,
and the price of the painting. So when a buyer likes the picture,
immediately see all the details and if you can buy.

People start to visit the page, and every time they see a picture of a picture is transferred 1Mb
Data from Web Page "www.cuadros-bobby-garcia.com" to the visitor's computer.

Suppose you have 10 pictures of boxes on the page, and usually people look
those 10 frames, then we have 10 photos of paintings that are 10Mb for each visitor.
By calculations, we see that the transfer had 2000Mb per month, if each
transferred visit 10Mb, then 2000/10 = 200 hits a month.

When it reaches the transfer limit, the server "short" visits to the Website,
doing that every time someone visits "www.cuadros-bobby-garcia.com" message appears
such as "This site has exceeded its monthly bandwidth quota. Wait until next month
comes to see her again. "Either that or the artist buy more quota transfer
having to pay for each 1000Mb of additional transfer fee.

So far there is theft of bandwidth.

Now, suppose that one of the visitors have a MSN group dedicated to the work of
Pepito Garcia, let's call the group "Viva-Pepito-Garcia," and then learns that the
artist has put his pictures on the Internet and visit the page.
There is a picture that you really like and could be very good cover of his group.
So without thinking twice, select the image, gives copy, create the cover page
and gives stick with what you already have the cover image. Without any intention,
Theft is making Bandwidth, and spoiling their favorite artist, which is just
intent contrary to what I wanted because I wanted to promote it.

Let's see why it is annoying.

When you copy and paste the image of the picture, the direction of the image will be
"Www.cuadros-pepito-garcia.com/cuadro-bonito.png" for example.
Therefore, each time that each participant of group "Viva-Pepito-Garcia" among the group,
Cover image you see is "www.cuadros-pepito-garcia.com/cuadro-bonito.png"
you have to transfer the space of the artist, "www.cuadros-bobby-garcia.com".

If you've been in that the image was 1Mb, each participant in the group is using
1Mb of data that is not benefiting the artist, as it is not showing information
the picture or details of the sale. When you enter 10 participants to the group, their views have
consumed 10MB of transfer fee of the artist, or whatever it is,
you have won 1 visit to your website.

If the group is busy, it is not uncommon for 100 people each day visit the group,
thus robbing 1Mb = 100 * 100 Mb of monthly transfer fee (only 1 day!).
The artist and nothing else remaining 2000-100 = 1900Mb of transfer, or whatever it is,
190 views of interest to you. And every day that passes will be 10 fewer visits,
so that ultimately the artist should decide you do not keep the page and close the domain,
as soon runs out the transfer fee and does not sell any pictures, and
asked why, because if the transfer is exhausted because no visits,
and if there should be some sales visits.
What I do not know is that from the group "Viva-Pepito-Garcia" you are stealing bandwidth.
And it is his largest group of fans. Paradoxically, right? Simply copy and paste.

Another effect of the Stealing Bandwidth (or Hotlinking) is that if the artist sells
the picture-pretty, and decides that it is known, will put a huge stamp on medium
put 'SOLD' as the cover image of the group remains
"Www.cuadros-pepito-garcia.com/cuadro-bonito.png"
on the cover of the group appears a poster of 'SOLD' in the middle of the cover.

To prevent theft of bandwidth, so you should have done that put the cover of the group
is, instead of copying and pasting, it would click with the right mouse button and choose Save Image As ...
Once the image is on your PC, open a picture album in your group, and load the image
from your PC. What occupies only 1Mb and give us 3? Well we will draw the chestnuts and
fire creating other user accounts, because if not, we are instead of bugging
help. All this assuming that the image is not protected by copyright.

If you got this far, congratulations! ... You know what is hotlinking.
